My History in the Chicago Leftist High School...
I just finished reading this piece about UIC Urbana-Champaign media professor Robert McChesney in TechLiberation, and it made me think of two things: 1) its incredible to think that these folks are on the public payroll, awarded advanced degrees, and have their opinions sought out, and 2) “hey, I remember talking to that guy.” Here is that latter story:
I’m a bit embarassed to...

STV for you and me? (or, why reading Democracy in... →
IRV / STV voting is still a great idea, even if its not the cure to every problem that some of its proponents claim, but what this article mostly makes me think of is interning for an organization called the Midwest Democracy Center (Google can’t even find it now) when I was in high school. I spent a couple very long, very uncomfortable nights calling folks in Alaska (who had IRV on their...

Chicago avant-rock band supreme, volcano! is playing tonight at Lincoln Hall in Chicago. All attendees are guaranteed not to be disappointed! I’ll definitely be there. If you’re coming, let me know so I keep an eye out for you!
For folks not familiar with volcano!, here is a video for a track off their last album. The song is called “Africa Just Wants To Have Fun”, and...
Beating my body back into shape (or, you're doing...
I just got back from a good length run and I feel horrible. I’m trying to get back into shape after a good while of not doing anything healthier than choosing the low-fat triscuts to go with my port-wine cheese, and geeze, I’m paying for it.
Here are the things I’m doing:
1) Eating better: I’ve already eaten two oranges this week. Which means that I’ve eaten...
Economics Are Good (or the tawdriness of most...
I recently shared this item, discussing some weird places where people act seemingly non-rationally in their consumer preferences on my Google Reader feed. I posted it because, “hey, who’da thunk it, thats weird”. I know a lot of other people though, especially from the “progressive” left, who love these kinds of stories because they see these findings as somehow...

PHP is my bitch: myPHP →
Actually, my portfolio would be amazing if I invented a completely different version of PHP. I would call it myPHP (again, this sounds more user-friendly, which is the main reason mySQL has almost completely replaced SQL. The only people that haven’t switched over are senile old people (who are…
PHP is my bitch: HTML entities →
I don’t know where I stand on HTML entities. Right now I think that they are a good thing but I don’t want to spout off my opinion on them until I know more (unlike some other programmers out there- look anywhere). Here’s the deal: they take away all the html tags from what other people submit on…
My own wordpress
phpismybitch:
I’ve just decided that I’m going to make my own version of wordpress because that would be a pretty impressive thing to have in my portfolio. What if mine caught on so much that everyone used it over wordpress???!!!!
It would do all the same stuff but you could put links on your pages. And I would call it “my wordpress” because that sounds more user-friendly. People are suckers...
PHP is my bitch: Becoming a PHP guru... →
I’m just starting to learn PHP but I’m catching on pretty fast. Here are my thoughts so far on what I’m learning.
It’s really tedious to write the “<head>” and “<body>” on every single page I create. I’ve decided to skip this part for now. I’ll just go back when I’m all done with my portfolio and…
