Announce: Smartqueue Views (Drupal 6 Module)
Here is another useful module I put together for a client’s site.  The more I think about it the more surprised I am that something like it didn’t already exist.  I can see reusing this on lots of sites, so I hope someone else might find it useful). About Note: This module does not provide the ability to display smartqueues through views. That functionality already exists in the core...

Tyler Coates: Geeks  →
occupythedisco: I think the reason I find geek culture so obnoxious at times to engage in is because the people are for the most part the same privileged dips that inhabit mainstream culture, but with the added detriment of a victim complex. They’re still largely white and center their race, they’re still largely straight and center their sexuality, they’re still largely cis men who center their...

annicka: it’s pretty cold here today, so i left work a bit early to catch the last gasps of daylight on my ride home, hoping it wouldn’t be so cold. this is also the part where i note that i forgot my facewarmer and shoe covers. both V.I.Pieces of clothing for riding in 10 degree (feeling like -5!) weather… Pretty much my experience biking home from UIC today, except at Belmont and...

Happy New Years Eve
It is the height of luxury to sit in a hot bath and read about little birds. - Alfred Lord Tennyson It is the hight of luxury, after a great New Years Eve with great folks, to sit in a hot bath, slightly buzzed, eating red vines, watching Horders. - Peter Snyder

Offsite Content Frame - Drupal 7 Module →
Looking for a way to keep users hooked into your site while peaking at off site bits?  Welp, I had to write a module to do just that.  Its called Offsite Content Frame, it works well, and its guaranteed to anger your users! About offsite_content_frame captures all external links on your site and redirects them to a page, on your site, with the external content in an iframe. A link back to your...

Search Exclude - Drupal 6 Module →
Looking for a simple way to hide individual nodes from the D6 search system.  Well, here is a quick module I worked up to do exactly that. Huzzah! Search Exclude About A module to exclude individual nodes from the search system. Nodes are excluded from the search results at search / query time, so excluded nodes are still indexed. This allows for instant inclusion / exclusion of the nodes from...

Humble Bundle 4 →
For anyone interested in indie, “classic” style games, this package is really great.  Its a “choose what you want to pay” system, a chunk of the proceeds go to charity (you also decide that amount) and the package includes 7 games (9 if you pay / donate more than average).   I’ve only played VVVVV and Super Meat Boy, but those alone are _easily_ worth the price of...

elleninennui: (be warned: this is going to be a pity party) Wellllll Mexico City has been wonderful except for today. Lupe and Sara left for Guate this morning at 4am. I woke up at 7 and felt really sick to my stomach. Told my Mexican roommate, because she is a mom and I figured it would help just to talk… Sounds like you’re using those magnets wrong… Welcome back to Chicago!

Spotify and a tip-top The Smiths mix
I’m up late finishing up some computer science homework and drinking a perfect amount of coffee, and came up with something perfect.  Who’s going to top this The Smiths mix (limited to 10 songs)?  Its unbeatable, but in no particular order: Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want These Things Take Time (Hateful Of Hallow Version) This Charming Man (definitely not the Hateful...

The Fall: Ersatz GB - Taking Off (Track 2)
I have no idea what this song is about but it has the line (I think) “you never told me Simon, what the 40 carrots were for?” and it has the best guitar line in a The Fall song since, geeze, I don’t know, “Janet, Johnny and James”.   And it has grade-A MES ranting on it.  The last few albums were fine, but with maybe the sole exception of the climax of “Bury...

Last Night's PHP Meetup
Last night I went to the Chicago PHP Meet-Up to see PHP creator Rasmus Lerdorf speak.  At one point, he asked “who thinks the GOTO operator we added in PHP5.3 was a bad idea.”  I raised my hand (I’ve only done 3 months of assembly programming in my life, and thats already enough to see another jmp / goto statement again).  So Rasmus called me an idiot. I think somebody likes me!

Release: AIS_IMAP 1.0
I just committed the first public release of a great PHP library.  The library provides a set of object-oriented wrappers around the PHP IMAP extension.  This makes reading from mailboxes in PHP applications pleasant and easy, instead of ‘oh my god, how could anyone have ever developed the IMAP spec like this…”.  No joke, its extremely non-easy and non-obvious to correctly build the...

I love this kind of inward-looking-stuff.  Example: Dutch guy who’s been to SF and NY. And knows US americans through mefi: 1. cities where streets follow a grid. And almost all streets allow cars. As a European I’m accustomed to look for the city center; a place where there are no cars, where streets are meandering, where there are terraces to sit outside and have a coffee. A place...

The Pleasure Centers Updates (I'm Just Sayin')
I don’t want to get into the business of telling people how to spend their free time, but if you’re bored and have a spare time, why not check out these great new tracks by The Pleasure Centers, a great Chicago power-pop band that is on the up-and-up and really just two kind guys looking to make your grin. For better or worse (for Mark) I’m 50% of the group, and so I can tell...
